Caracasbaai Quarantine building is one of the historical remnants of Curaçao. The area of Caracas Bay was designated in 1874 as a quarantine station for ships with contagious disease on board. The Quarantine Building was built in 1883. This building was the observation facility for healthy sailors, who had to stay here until it was determined that they were not infected.
Another incredible piece of Curaçao heritage - left to rot. I fell in love with this building on my first day there. I opened my imagination to the endless possibilities: a fantastic chic restaurant (what a building, what a location!) or a guest house... Quarantine House has the potential to become a fantastic restaurant: tables on the two beautiful covered verandas , crisp white table cloths, large ceiling fans that cool diners while overlooking the azure ocean. High ceilings with elegant supporting columns. Plantation blinds could filter strong sunlight and cool the interior - which could include more internal Dino possibilities, and the upstairs could be converted into guest bedrooms or a chic art gallery. Instead, this incredible building is slowly rotting away, ravaged by graffiti and another testament to a huge investment opportunity gone to waste. Loved the location and building - hated the neglect and graffiti…
