Country house Daniel
Landhuis Daniel, part of the Dutch colonial heritage, was built around 1700 by Daniel Ellis, an English captain of a Dutch WIC ship. For a considerable part of its existence, the headquarters of the West India Company was located in Middelburg, the city where the current owner spent most of his Dutch period:
“When I took over the plantation house, I found behind a old cabinet a yellowed pencil drawing of the mill on the Molenwater in Middelburg, the same mill I would see if I looked out of my bedroom window from my home in Middelburg! Was it coincidence or predestination that I arrived at Landhuis Daniel, I think the latter. It felt like coming home. The circle was complete”, says Jan Francke (stage name Jakke) who has owned Landhuis Daniel since 1997.
Since then Landhuis Daniel has become a popular restaurant -with a few guest rooms- where tourists and locals mix in a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere, enjoying excellent food from the eclectic menu.
